The dangers of constitutional ignorance and political apathy

We live in politically uncertain and turbulent times. That's why it's more important than ever before to understand the rights, privileges, and freedoms granted to us by our Constitution! Regrettably, I fear that fewer people than ever before actually have a decent understanding of their constitutional freedoms Let me be clear: I'm not a lawyer, nor do I claim to be a constitutional expert. However, I can at least tell you what freedoms and protections the Constitution grants to all of us who live on or visit American soil. As someone who takes civics seriously, I am disheartened by a disturbing trend of constitutional ignorance and political apathy that has penetrated the very heart of our government. In order for our democracy to survive and thrive it is imperative to have a baseline understanding of our political system and constitutional norms and conventions. Without it, our democracy is ' teetering on the brink of extinction. Even more disturbingly, a large proportion of our elected representatives appear to be totally ignorant of their duties under the Constitution! My concern has nothing to do with partisan politics Rather, I am concerned with returning to constitutional and political norms which have seemingly been abandoned for the sake of political convenience and partisanship. I challenge each of you to pick up a copy of your constitution and to read it thoroughly. Don't just casually read it; study it. Really take time to understand it. Read it as if your freedom depended on it because it does! When a talking head on the TV spouts a constitutionally laughable theory call it out. When a politician tries to ignore the rules for the sake of political convenience, take it personally and vote accordingly. At the end of the day, it is our democracy and constitution, and it's on us to preserve it. I understand that the challenges we face feel bigger than each of us as individuals. However, we can all do our part by educating ourselves about our democratic rights and freedoms. Otherwise, We will only have ourselves to blame for the extinction of the the freedoms That we currently enjoy Which so many Americans Have given their blood sweat and tears to protect. Freedom is very similar to trust It takes a long time to gain, and it can be lost instantly The next time someone tells you that constitutionalism or politics doesn't matter tell them that they are wrong and mistaken. Tell them without the Constitution or the rule of law there is be no such thing as freedom or the United States of America!
